The method involves selecting a stored scan protocol from a database in which operating parameters of an imaging device e.g. computer tomography (1), are provided for image acquisition or selecting a stored contrast medium protocol in which parameters of a contrast medium processing are provided. The medium and/or scan protocols combined with the selected protocols are identified based on stored and combined parameters assigned to the protocols in the database. The identified protocol is provided as contrast medium and/or scan protocol assigned to the selected protocols. An independent claim is also included for an imaging device with an operating unit.
