<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane demonstrating a superior durability and having high ion conductivity in thickness direction, and suitable for a solid polymer fuel cell, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane is formed of an ion conductive composition including a first polymer containing an ionic dissociation group and a second polymer different from the first polymer. The intrinsic viscosity of the second polymer is established to be 2-15 dL/g. The molecule chains of each polymer are oriented in an certain direction, and the orientation α along the certain direction of the molecule chains of each polymer obtained by the following formula (1) by X-ray diffraction measurement is established to be 0.3 or more and less than 1. The ion conductivity in the thickness direction of the electrolyte membrane is established higher than that in a direction parallel to the surface of the membrane. The formula (1): orientation α=(180-Δβ)/180, provided that Δβ expresses a half width when the X-ray diffraction intensity distribution from 0 to 360° azimuth angle direction is measured by fixing a peak scattering angle in the X-ray diffraction measurement. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
