PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and a liquid crystal display system which, when employing LEDs for backlights of a liquid crystal panel, can perform optical transmission of prescribed signals to external devices while evading deterioration in image quality and the fatigue of a viewing person's eyes, and consequently have enhanced convenience of various kinds. SOLUTION: The optical transmission of a digital signal is performed by flickering the LED 14 for illuminating the region of a letter box in a LED driving circuit 15. At this time, when the optical transmission of a digital signal obtained by modulating the voice signal of the video under displaying, the optical transmission simultaneously with speaker 23 outputting of the same voice signal, and multiple video display are performed, the optical transmission by modulating the voice signal of a certain video simultaneously with speaker 23 outputting of a voice signal of another video, the optical transmission simultaneously with speaker 23 outputting of either of a main voice signal and a sub-voice signal, and the optical transmission etc. by modulating the other are performed.
