A process strengthens a metallic matrix of aluminum or magnesium by the introduction of micro- or nano-particles in the molten metal. The admixed mico- or nano-particles that dissolve to form strengthening bonds with the elements present in the molten metal. The micro-particle dimension is in the range 1m to 1000m, and nano-particle dimension is in the range 1nm to 1000nm. The volumetric ratio of strengthening particles to dissolved particles is in the range 1:100 to 20:1.
