PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic probe capable of preventing breakage when dropping the ultrasonic probe by retracting an acoustic element from a collision surface and preventing it from directly receiving an impact. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic probe is provided with an acoustic element 2 transmitting/receiving ultrasonic waves, an element support section 4 retaining the acoustic element, a driving means 9 generating a driving force swinging the element support section, a transmission means 10 transmitting the driving force to the element support section, and encoder 13 acquiring position information on the element support section, an acoustic window 7 covering the acoustic element, and coupling liquid 8 filling the inside of the acoustic window. This ultrasonic probe is further provided with a movement detecting means 51 detecting the dropping of the ultrasonic probe, a drive control means 12 outputting a control signal for stopping the output of the driving force at a speed or acceleration of a prescribed value or more, and a position change means 52 swinging and deviating the element support part for preventing the direction of a vertical axis relative to the surface of the element support section retaining the acoustic element from getting in parallel to the falling direction of the swinging axis.
