PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor wherein, even when a high voltage is applied thereto, it is hard to reduce an electrostatic capacity and increase an internal resistance. SOLUTION: An electrolyte for the electric double layer capacitor of a non-water system is used to form an electric double layer on a surface of a polarizing electrode composed of activated carbon. This electrolyte is produced in such a way that tetraethyl ammonium tetrafluoroborate functioning as a solute is dissolved with propylenecarbonate functioning as a main solvent to set to 1 mol/L, and the resultant is mixed with methylnaphthalene functioning as a sub-solvent at 10-30 wt.% in terms of the total of the solvent.
