PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lifting/lowering-type article carrying device capable of accurately lifting/lowering an article transfer device to appropriate transfer height while avoiding decline in carrying efficiency as much as possible. SOLUTION: A control means for controlling lifting/lowering operation of the article transfer device is constituted so as to execute a storing process of storing detection information of a lifting/lowering position detecting means in the state where the transfer device is lifted/lowered to the appropriate transfer height with respect to a beam for article placement, as target lifting/lowering position information indicating the appropriate transfer height with respect to the beam; and a simplified lifting/lowering process of lifting/lowering the transfer device to the appropriate transfer height, in the form of determining the appropriate transfer height and deceleration start height before the appropriate transfer height by a set distance based on the detection information of the lifting/lowering position detecting means and in the form of lifting/lowering the transfer device at lifting/lowering speed for movement to the deceleration start height and then gradually decreasing the lifting/lowering speed from the lifting/lowering speed for movement to target low speed, when the transfer device is lifted/lowered to the appropriate transfer height with respect to the beam storing the target lifting/lowering position information.
