<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module designed so as to easily cope with various cables of different number of optical fibers accommodated therein. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical module, a plurality of optical units are arranged parallel to one another, each optical unit having an optical communication element used for conversion from an electric signal to an optical signal and vice versa and a socket in which the optical communication element is fit, and parts of the sockets of the adjacent optical units are connected so as to be freely cut off.
