PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear solenoid which reduces attraction force generated in the opposite direction between a plunger and the bottom of a yoke to prevent a decrease in plunger-driving force, and prevent the occurrence of the splashing phenomenon in hydraulic characteristics. SOLUTION: On the bottom of the yoke 34, a nearly hexagram star-shaped recess 46 is formed in such a manner that the vertexes radially stick out of the outside periphery of the plunger, and contact parts 44 and non-contact parts 45 are allowed to appear alternately when axially viewed. The contact parts 44 are respectively spaced uniformly, and covers the same area. Thus, the contact area between the plunger 32 and the yoke 34 in the bottom is reduced to make the attraction-force in the opposite direction small, and the attraction force acting on the plunger 32 is inhibited from decreasing. Since the attraction force in the opposite direction is reduced, the balance point at which the plunger 32 is axially balanced is established singly to inhibit occurrence of the splashing phenomenon in the hydraulic characteristics.
