PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyacrylonitrile-based polymer for a carbon fiber precursor fiber excellent in carbonization yield after its calcining process without damaging spinning property, also to provide a carbon fiber precursor fiber and a method for producing the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: This polymer composition for the carbon fiber precursor fiber is characterized by containing the polyacrylonitrile-based polymer and carbon-based fine particles having≤200 nm mean particle diameter measured by a dynamic light-scattering type particle size distribution-measuring method.
