<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material having high surface hardness, excellent in scratch resistance and having low refractive index and to provide a method for producing the coating material and to provide an optical article using the coating material. <P>SOLUTION: The coating material comprises (A) a compound having a perfluoro group, (B) silica microparticles having 40-100 nm average particle diameter and having voids in the inside and (C) porous silica microparticles having 5-30 nm average particle diameter.
