PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine directly transferring heat from a heat source to fuel to give fuel a large amount of heat and facilitate atomization and vaporization. SOLUTION: In the internal combustion engine in which a fuel injection valve is installed on a cylinder head provided with a cooling water jacket, the cylinder head is provided with a fuel jacket in which fuel is stored, and a fuel supply passage is formed for supplying fuel from the fuel jacket to the fuel injection valve. Fuel is thus temporarily stored in the fuel jacket provided on the cylinder head before being injected from the fuel injection valve, and heat is transferred to the fuel stored in the fuel jacket via the cylinder head. The heat given to fuel facilitates atomization of the fuel. There is thus provided the engine having good combustion characteristics in a combustion chamber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
