PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily copy video data which exceed the recording capacity of an optical disk in a hybrid AV recorder including an HDD and an optical disk drive. SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing device divides the video data into pieces of data each having not larger than the recording capacity of the optical disk and copying is successively performed. A division point is selected at a part with a low correlation before and after the video data. An identification signal indicating division recording is added to the optical disk. When a division recording identification signal is detected, data which are obtained by performing the read-ahead of the optical disk in the optical disk drive are recorded in the HDD, and the data are reproduced from the HDD after terminating the read-ahead. During the reproduction, the mounting of the optical disk with the succeeding division recording is urged by displaying on a screen with the video data displayed thereon or a display device arranged in the recording and reproducing device. When the optical disk is exchanged before the reproduction by the HDD is terminated, data of the succeeding optical disk are reproduced, so that the video is consecutively reproduced.
