PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that in a high capacity and high transfer rate drive which helically records/reproduces data to/from a thin high performance magnetic tape, an envelope during recording/reproducing to/from the thin high performance magnetic tape with a high-speed rotating cylinder mounted with a magnetic head is not stabilized especially, contact of the thin high performance magnetic tape with the magnetic head is not stabilized at the magnetic tape sliding start position (entry side) on the magnetic head, the envelope decreases, and a favorable error rate cannot be secured. SOLUTION: This magnetic head in which respective end parts at the entry side magnetic head core half body at the magnetic tape sliding start position (entry side) and an anti-magnetic head core half body (outgoing side) are chamfered, and it is characterized in that a magnetic layer part of the chamfering part is formed to a concave shape from a non-magnetic substrate, in the magnetic core in which the non-magnetic substrate and the magnetic head core half body with magnetic layers layered are joined.
