1,131,703. Cutting plastics objects. GEORGES LESIEUR & SES FILS. 2 Feb., 1966 [9 Feb., 1965], No. 4624/66. Heading B5A. A method of cutting or trimming plastics objects e.g. bottles having a circular peripheral supporting groove comprises pressing the objects against a cutting blade while imparting simultaneous translation and rotation to the object. The apparatus (Figs. 1, not shown) comprises two guide members (6, 7) one fixed and one movable, between which the supporting groove is engaged, and a cutting blade (5) to cut the object while it is moving between the guide members. One of the guide members (7, Fig. 2, not shown) corresponds in part to the arc of a circle concentric with the other (6). The cutting blade may be a sharp disc (5), the movable guide member (6) being circular and rotatable about its centre as in Figs. 1, 2. The blade may alternatively be stationary or mounted on the guide member which is partially circular (7) (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), and the blade (14) itself may have an arcuate contour (14a) and may also have a rectilinear portion (14b), which may be at an angle a (Fig. 4) of 10-20 degrees to the straight line joining the inner edge of this portion to the centre of the movable circular guide member (6). The blade may be at any height (Figs. 5, 6, not shown). |
