<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heater controller for a gas sensor capable of effectively preventing the cracking of a sensor element by water. <P>SOLUTION: This heater controller controls a heater for heating the sensor element of the gas sensor 4 arranged in the exhaust system 3 of a diesel engine 2 and is constituted so as to alter the control standard of the heater after the start of an engine of previous operation corresponding to the operation state before the stop of the engine of previous operation. This controller is constituted so to alter the control standard of the heater after the start of the engine of next operation, as the operation state before the stop of the engine of next operation, between the case where a low-temperature integrated time t<SB>dwn</SB>being the integrated time when the temperature of an exhaust system 3 is a predetermined reference temperature T<SB>0</SB>or above a predetermined reference time t<SB>0</SB>and the case where it is below the predetermined reference time t<SB>0</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
