PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning member etc., capable of suppressing life reduction while maintaining the residual toner removing function with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The cleaning apparatus 6 includes a freely rotatable cylindrical cleaning roller 61 that has a roller member 61B with a plurality of recessed parts 61C formed on the peripheral surface thereof, for removing the residual toner from the surface of an image carrier 1, and a scraper blade 62 for recovering the removed residual toner in contact with the peripheral surface of the cleaning roller 61. By making each opening of the recessed parts 61C formed on the peripheral surface of the cleaning roller 61 smaller than the particle diameter of the toner, the toner is easily removed without causing clogging, then, the lives of the image carrier and the cleaner are prolonged.
