PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight high-luminance discharge projector having long in a continuously-lighting time and low in power consumption without worrying about environmental destruction. SOLUTION: This high-luminance discharge projector includes: an HID lamp 16; a ballast 21 connected between the HID lamp 16 and an on-vehicle battery power source for increasing the battery voltage of the on-vehicle power source up to 85 V; housings 11, 15 and 19 for housing the HID lamp 16 and the ballast 21; a handle 12 mounted to the housing 11; a lamp seat 20 for fixing the HID lamp 16 to position an igniter thereof in the vicinity of the center in the housing; a heat insulation material 29 located between the HID lamp 16 and the ballast 21; a ballast support 28 for fixing the ballast 21 in a hollow under the HID lamp 16; and a cooling mechanism including a plurality of holes 25 formed on the housing in order to cool the inside of the housing.
