PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for assembling an air bearing, which easily adjusts a bearing clearance between a guide and a slider, and improves the assembling workability, and also to provide the air bearing and a linear drive device having the same air bearing. SOLUTION: The method for assembling the air bearing for floatingly supporting a movable side slider 12 to be movable relative to a fixed side guide 2 comprises steps of: forming a clearance, which is twice a target design bearing clearance, between the mating opposed surfaces by supplying compressed air of specified pressure between the one opposed member 13, among a pair of opposed members 13, 14 to be arranged on both sides of the guide 2, and the mating opposed surface of the guide 2 in the state where the other opposed member 14 has been brought into close contact with the mating opposed surface of the guide 2; and forming the target design bearing clearance between a pair of the opposed members 13, 14 and the both side mating opposed surfaces of the guide 2 by supplying compressed air of specified pressure between a pair of the opposed members 13, 14 and the mating opposed surfaces of the guide 2.
