PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator cage lightening system using LEDs for cage ceiling luminaires, capable of substantially reducing vertical spaces occupied by the luminaires, and in particular, capable of contributing to reduction in a vertical dimension of a hoistway. SOLUTION: This elevator cage lighting system comprises ceiling boards 2 of the elevator cage, a large number of LED luminaires 1 arranged in the oblique direction or vertical direction on back faces of the ceiling board 2 portions, and lighting boards 3 provided on the ceiling boards 2 so as to oppose to the light emission direction of the LED luminaires 1 and comprising a translucent material.
