<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bi-directional catheter capable of deflecting in more than one direction without rotating the catheter body, which requires more than one puller wire. <P>SOLUTION: An improved bi-directional steerable catheter is provided. The catheter generally comprises a catheter body, a tip section end and a control handle. The catheter further comprises first and second puller wires extending from the control handle into the tip section through the catheter body. The control handle has deflection means for the respective puller wires each including a gear and a carrier to which the proximal end of a puller wire is anchored. The gear is rotatably coupled to a lever controlled by an operator, the gear and the carrier are engaged so that the rotation of the gear by the lever generates the movement in the length direction of the carrier, which results in deflection of the tip section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
