<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition and a polymer material which are applied on at least one surface of a medical device and are prepared through a process that is compatible with a pharmaceutical or therapeutic agent physically or chemically impregnated in a coating. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention discloses a block copolymer having a hydrophobic block, a hydrophilic block, and a biologically active block. The biologically active block is directly adjacent to the hydrophilic block. Preferably, the block copolymer is prepared through reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The present invention also discloses the coating composition including the block copolymer. The coating composition is used to apply on at least a part of one surface of an article. Moreover, the present invention discloses an article having the coating composition on the article.
