<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method for detecting excessive combustion in particulate filter regeneration more accurately than a conventional method. <P>SOLUTION: In this excessive combustion detection method, an excessive combustion condition is detected when burning and removing particulates deposited on a particulate filter 1 arranged in an exhaust passage 80 for regeneration. This method comprises an oxygen concentration measurement step for measuring concentration of oxygen in exhaust gas in the exhaust passage 80 on the downstream side of the particulate filter 1 after regeneration is started at a predetermined time interval and an excessive combustion determination step for determining whether it is in an excessive combustion condition or not by determining whether concentration of oxygen measured by the oxygen concentration measurement step is in a predetermined reducing tendency or not. In the excessive combustion determination step, it is preferable that a rate of change of concentration of oxygen is obtained and whether concentration of oxygen is in the reducing tendency or not is determined based on the rate of change of concentration of oxygen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
