PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system and an authentication method, which verifies that a client's system is free from defect (virus, alteration, etc.). SOLUTION: An authentication server 20 includes a second file information table 23 having the same content as a first file information table owned by a plurality of clients 10. Each client 10 and the authentication server 20 form a first authentication key k1 and a second authentication key k2, based on first file information f1 and second file information f2, respectively. The authentication server 20 collates the first authentication key k1 with the second authentication key k2, permits a service when the both are identical, and rejects the service when the both differ from each other.
