PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acrylic fiber having good appearance quality in high productivity when producing the acrylic fiber. SOLUTION: The method for producing the acrylic fiber comprising extruding a spinning stock solution comprising a polyacrylonitrile-based polymer from a spinneret, coagulating the extruded solution in a coagulation bath, and subjecting the obtained yarn to a pressurized steam drawing step involves extruding the spinning stock solution while regulating the back pressure of the spinneret at the extrusion of the spinning stock solution so as to be 20-200 kgf/cm<SP>2</SP>.
