<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate unevenness in light emission of a lighting system such as a backlight used in a liquid crystal display device at low costs. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system, which provides planar light emission, comprises a backlight section 200 that exhibits in-plane unevenness in light emission and an optical film 100 having an in-plane distribution of transmittivity that compensates the unevenness in light emission. The optical film has a plurality of slits 103 that allow light to pass through, and controls the in-plane distribution of transmittivity by changing the shape of the slit openings. The slits have a uniform width and are provided with closing parts 104 along the length thereof, so that the in-plane distribution of transmittivity is controlled by the ratio of the closing parts 104. Part other than the slits is a light shield layer 102, and a surface of this light shield layer 102 on the side of a light source 202 diffuses and reflects light. The in-plane distribution of transmittivity of this optical film is smaller than the reciprocal number of the emission intensity distribution of the backlight section. A surface of the optical film opposite to the light source is formed in a cylindrical lens structure 101 that focuses on the slits. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
