The device has a measuring arm (4, 6) with a probe (9, 11) that scans a surface of a wall of a tube end. A probe sensor measures the relative movement between the probe and the measuring arm. A processing device (2, 3) changes the relative position between the measuring arm and the surface of the wall of the tube end in a one-dimensional processing direction (L) during the measurement of the profile of the surface, where a relative movement direction (S1, S2) is provided inclined to the processing direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring a profile of a surface of a tube end.
