<p>Flow of air is exposed to U.V. radiation, causing ionisation and prodn. of symmetrical ion pairs. At least part of the positive ions produced are removed by electrostatic device, and air is then humidified and/or treated with active volatile substances to ensure transformation of remaining negative ions into stable complex form. Pref. electrostatic collection member, negatively charged, is provided in apparatus, or gas stream flows over synthetic resin materials, such as PTFE or silicones to remove positive charges by virtue of their surface properties. Spec. germicidal U.V. temp. is also provided in apparatus.</p> |
