A brassiere includes crossed tapes 26, 28 secured to the inner edge regions of the cups 10, 12 and to each other at 42, an underbust band 50 stretchable horizontally and a triangular insert 48 of non-elastic, mesh fabric disposed on the cross relative to the upper edge of the underbust band and secured to the lower branches 38, 40 of the tapes 28, 26 respectively and to the upper edge of the underbust band. The groups of strands forming the mesh are substantially at right angle to each other and preferably at an angle of 45 degrees to the upper edge of the underbust band. In an alternative embodiment, (Fig. 6, not shown) the tapes are not crossed, each tape being secured to the upper and lower edge region of one cup. In a further embodiment one tape, preferably stretchable, is secured to the upper inner edge regions of both cups and the other tape, preferably non-stretchable, is secured to the lower inner edge regions of both cups. |
