METHOD FOR PERFORMING HANDOFF FROM WIBRO (WIMAX) SERVICE TO WIRELESS LAN SERVICE AND TERMINAL APPARATUS USING THE SAME

A method for performing handoff from a Wibro(Wimax) service to a WLAN(Wireless LAN) service and a terminal adopting the same are provided to receive information transmitted to a Wibro base station via a listening section without exception after the handoff has been performed by notifying the Wibro base station of entry into an idle mode or a sleep mode and then performing the handoff to the WLAN service. A method for performing handoff from a Wibro(Wimax) service to a WLAN(Wireless LAN) service comprises the following several steps. A terminal communicates with a Wibro or a Wimax base station(S11). The terminal notifies the Wibro or the Wimax base station that a scanning operation is performed(S12). The terminal performs the scanning operation for seeking for a WLAN base station, repeats the step S11 if the terminal does not seek for the WLAN base station, and performs the next step if the terminal seeks for the WLAN base station(S13). The terminal communicates with the WLAN base station(S14).
