The method involves downloading multimedia content in a push mode in a partial manner from a content server to a client equipment (EC1) via a communication network. Missing blocks of the multimedia content are downloaded in a pull mode by a peer to peer mechanism from another client equipment (EC2), where one of the client equipments is a decoder with a hard disk or a personal computer. The client equipments are situated under a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM). An independent claim is also included for a system for distributing multimedia content.
