PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reading apparatus which avoids dirt adhered to glass facing an original document to be conveyed and can read the image of the original document. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1A includes a document glass 2, an automatic document feeder 3 arranged on the document glass 2 and a scanner optical system 4 arranged on the lower side of the document glass 2. A document feeding path 23 having a reading position A facing the document glass 2 is formed in the automatic document feeder 3. The scanner optical system 4 reads the image of the document passing through the reading position A from the lower side of the document glass 2. Then, the automatic document feeder 3 is constituted to be movable on the document glass 2 and a part facing the reading position A on the document glass 2 is changed by movement of the automatic document feeder 3.
