PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add or delete documents in a short time while reducing the amount of traffic. SOLUTION: In an electronic conference system wherein a plurality of client terminals are connected to a document sharing server, each of the client terminals includes a document storage part for storing documents, a status storage part for storing the display status information of the documents, and a time stamp storage part for storing the time stamps of the documents. When the document display status of any of the client terminals is changed, the display status information of a document stored in the status storage part of that client terminal is sent to the document sharing server; the document sharing server in turn stores the display status information received from one client terminal in the status storage part. When a synchronous timer measures the elapse of a predetermined period of time, the display status information stored in the status storage part is transferred to the other client terminal.
