PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broach and a broaching method, reducing a shock applied to a cutting edge due to bending of the broach to restrain the occurrence and progress of abnormal abrasion such as chipping, whereby the life of a tool can be remarkably improved. SOLUTION: The cut area of the cutting edge positioned in a part having a large bending amount of the broach 1 is decreased to reduce the cutting load applied to the part, and the cut area of the cutting edge positioned in a part having a small bending amount of the broach 1 is increased to enhance the cutting load applied to the part, whereby bending of the broach 1 is restrained. Thus, a shock applied to the cutting edge K in the process of broaching is reduced to restrain the occurrence and progress of abnormal abrasion such as chipping, whereby the life of a tool can be remarkably improved.
