PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated ceramic sintered compact in which a surface layer is hard to be peeled even if being repeatedly used in a temperature-changing environment. SOLUTION: The surface-coated ceramic sintered compact 10 is obtained by stacking the surface of a ceramic substrate 1 with a surface layer 3 having a thermal expansion coefficient higher than that of the ceramic substrate 1 via an intermediate layer 2. The intermediate layer 2 is obtained by dispersing at least either ceramic particles or ceramic short fibers into a ceramic matrix. It is preferable that a difference of≥1 ppm is present between the thermal expansion coefficient of the ceramic particles and ceramic short fibers to be dispersed into the intermediate layer 2 and the thermal expansion coefficient of the ceramic matrix. Further, it is preferable that the thermal expansion coefficient of the intermediate layer 2 is higher than the thermal expansion coefficient of the ceramic substrate 1, and is lower than the thermal expansion coefficient of the surface layer 3.
