PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for searching a compound for controlling inflammations and allergies induced by neuromedin U. SOLUTION: The method for identifying a compound having anti-inflammatory action and anti-allergic action comprises (1) a process for bringing neuromedin U into contact with mastocytes in the presence or absence of a test compound, (2) a process for assaying the degree of degranulation of the mastocytes, (3) a process for comparing the degree of the degranulation of the mastocytes in the presence of the test compound with that in the absence of the test compound and (4) a process for judging that the test compound is a compound having anti-inflammatory action and/or anti-allergic action when the degree of degranulation of the mastocytes is reduced in the presence of the test compound than in the absence of the test compound.
