<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tandem type image forming apparatus having a monochrome mode and a color mode, the image forming apparatus being designed to ensure the long lifetime of a belt without adding a special mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The tandem type color image forming apparatus is such that the intermediate transfer belt 21 extended between a drive roller 22 and a driven roller 23 has a tension difference between the widthwise one edge and other edge and, therefore, the intermediate transfer belt 21 deviates toward the one or other edge of each of the drive rollers 22 and the driven rollers 23. Changing the positions of intermediate transfer belt contact rollers 27, 32, 33, 131, and 132 other than the drive roller 22 and the driven roller 23 allows switching the biasing direction of the intermediate transfer belt 21 as well as switching the mode between the color mode and the monochrome mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
