<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a grip offering sufficient holdability on the trunk of a large square bottle without widely changing the shape of the bottle, thereby provide a synthetic resin square bottle which has superior holdability and can be used safely. <P>SOLUTION: The synthetic resin square bottle has a trunk having an oblong horizontal section, and a waist portion which is a peripheral groove formed at almost the center of the height of the bottle. Recessions for hooking fingers thereon are formed on both long side walls forming the long sides of the sectional oblong in such a way that the recessions are formed on given areas extending from the waist portion to the lower part of the bottle on both long side walls counter to each other with the upper ends of the recessions are connected to the waist portion.
