PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide rear door structure and an assembling method for the rear door capable of ensuring rigidity of whole of the rear door by improving the rigidity in the end corner part of the lower end of a door window shield panel, and suppressing local deformation. SOLUTION: Tailgate structure is openably/closably provided at the rear part of a vehicle body. The tailgate structure has a frame part 15 formed along the outer edge of the tailgate 3, a door glass 9 provided on the frame part 15, and a lateral beam 14 provided across between both corner parts of lower end of the door glass 9. The frame part 15 and the lateral beam 14 are respectively formed to be a closed cross sectional structure, and the closed cross sections H1, H2 of these frame part 15 and the lateral beam 14 are continued in a connection part of the frame part 15 with the lateral beam 14.
