PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorptive article having an absorbing layer with leakage preventing grooves formed by compression processing, in which liquid absorbed in the absorbing layer exhibits excellent diffusibility even when the liquid is absorbed repeatedly or when a large amount of the liquid is absorbed in a short period of time. SOLUTION: The absorptive article 1 has the absorbing layer A in which a bulky surface sheet 2 and an absorptive sheet 4 of low compression-deformability are layered. On the side of a skin-contacting surface of the absorbing layer A, a leakage preventing groove 6 extending in the state of a continuous line in a plane view. The leakage preventing groove 6 is formed by compression-processing the absorbing layer A in its thickness direction to integrate the surface sheet 2 and the absorptive sheet 4 and to recess at least the surface sheet 2. At the surface sheet 2, a high compression part 62 and a low compression part 61 are arrange alternately in the direction of extending of the leakage preventing groove 6, and a gradient of coarseness and minuteness is formed from the low compression part 61 toward the high compression part 62.
