A process for positioning rollers or roller elements (2,3,4) in an extrusion moulding unit, comprises using a measuring unit (5) to measure the vertical distance to the surface of the roller or to a reference point. The distance is then stored. The measuring unit is moved horizontally and consists of a laser separation sensor.
