PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder which can be used in narrow space. SOLUTION: The encoder body 10 comprises: a magnet 12 fixed to the tip of a shaft 11; a Hall element for detecting a change in a magnetic field in accordance with the rotation of the magnet 12; and an IC chip 14 which calculates the rotation angle of the shaft 11 on the basis of the detection of the Hall element and generates various kinds of signals on the basis of the rotation information. Cables 20, 21 to be connected to a controller are connected to the encoder body 10. A relay section 30 is provided between the cables 20, 21. The relay section 30 is provided with a substrate 32 in which a plurality of circuit sections for outputting the various kinds of signals generated by the IC chip 14 to the outside and a power source circuit section are installed. First and second connectors 33, 34 are provided on the front side of the substrate 32 in the central axial direction of the cables 20, 21.
