PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval system capable of specifying easily a correct name or the like of a living organism in a photographing place. SOLUTION: A position when an observer photographs a flower is detected by a GPS antenna, a feature of the flower is extracted from an image data of the photographed flower, when the position of the flower is within an assigned area MA1 (for example, when the flower is positioned in a position B), attribute information of the flower is retrieved from a district database, based on the feature, and a retrieved result is displayed on a liquid crystal finder. A message "the district not registered in the database" is displayed on the liquid crystal finder, without executing retrieval, when the position of the flower is not within the assigned area MA1 (for example, when the flower is positioned in a position A).
