PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which toner protruded in an expanded condition into an area outside a recording medium during fixing can be effectively removed from a fixing means. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is constructed in such a way that a recording medium P with a toner image transferred to its surface is heated and pressed to fix the toner image to the surface of the recording medium P and toner T which is protruded in an expanded condition to an area outside an outline of the recording medium P on a surface of a fixing means abutted on the recording medium and is attached to the area, is removed. Since toner T that has been accidentally on the particular surface of the fixing means is removed, the adverse effects of such toner T on the subsequent page or on the fixing means can be avoided or restrained.
