PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device built in a structure that can improve contact between the orientation film and its base film, and increase the moisture resistance in the effective pixel areas by blocking the moisture and also can prevent the orientation film from peeling off the base film in the rubbing process. SOLUTION: In this liquid crystal device, a TFT substrate 10 and an opposite substrate 20 are arranged, facing each other with sealing materials 52 in between, and liquid crystals 50 are provided at least in the effective pixel areas between the TFT substrate 10 and the opposite substrate 20. It has an orientation film 16 directly below the sealing materials 52 formed on the TFT substrate 10 and an insulating film 60 below the orientation film 16, and forms a transparent conductive film 40, in close contact with the orientation film 16 and the insulating film 60 at the area 41 at least covering flat the sealing materials 52 between the orientation film 16 and the insulating films 60.
