METHOD OF EXECUTING HANDOVER BETWEEN HETERONETWORKS AND SUPPORTING THEREOF

A method for executing handover between heterogeneous networks and a method for supporting the same are provided to reduce signaling overheads for the execution of handover between heterogeneous networks. A UE(User Equipment) transmits UE capability information containing a GAN(Generic Access Network) support status indicator to an SRNC(Serving Radio Network Controller)(S31). The SRNC transmits a radio link setup request message containing the UE's GAN support status indicator or a radio link addition request message to a DRNC(Drift RNC)(S32). In case the GAN support status indicator indicates that the UE supports a GAN, the DRNC forwards information about GAN cells, neighboring to the UE, to the SRNC by using a radio link setup response message or a radio link addition response message(S33). The SRNC provides the received neighbor GAN cell information to the UE through a measurement control message(S34). The UE measures the power of each neighbor GAN cells, and transmits information about a GAN cell having the highest power to a UTRAN(UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) through a measurement report message(S35). The UTRAN, receiving the measurement report message, executes UTRAN-to-GAN handover procedures(S36).
