A method and an apparatus for reproducing data and a recording medium therefor are provided to reproduce data including updated information associated with reproduction in specific area or country. An optical recording and reproducing apparatus reads updated region free information associated with another recording medium from data including a video or audio stream recorded in a recording medium or a storage(S902,S904). The optical recording and reproducing apparatus stores the updated region free information(S906). The optical recording and reproducing apparatus judges whether the updated region free information is identical to previously stored region free information. When the updated region free information is not identical to the previously stored region free information, the optical recording and reproducing apparatus stores the updated region free information.
