A data reproducing method, an apparatus therefor, and a recording medium are provided to prevent data from being distributed in a place for which a copyrighter does not wish by limiting the reproduction of the data in a geographical region which is not permitted and permitting the reproduction of the data in only a geographical region which is approved by using a region code recorded in the recording medium and region information recorded in a recording/reproducing apparatus. A pickup unit(201) detects one or more region codes indicating a geographical region where reproduction is admitted from a recording medium(10). A control unit(202) judges whether a geographical region indicated by the detected region code is identical to a geographical region designated in a data recording/reproducing apparatus, and determines whether to reproduce data stored in the recording medium according to the judged result.
