<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel having an excellent screen contrast, a small color shift, and little display irregularities. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal panel includes a liquid crystal cell, a first polarizer, a second polarizer, a protection layer, a first optical compensation layer, and a second optical compensation layer. The protection layer satisfies the relationships: 0 nm≤Δnd(550)≤10 nm and 0 nm≤Rth(550)≤20 nm. The first optical compensation layer has an absolute value of the optical elastic coefficient equal to or below 40×10<SP>-12</SP>(m<SP>2</SP>/N) and satisfies the relationships: Δnd(380)<Δnd(550)<Δnd (780), nx>ny≥nz and 90 nm ≤Δnd(550)≤200 nm.
