PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve spin-drying and drainage performance when washing a small amount of laundry such as a piece of bath towel or bedding sheet. SOLUTION: A drum type washing machine is provided with a small amount course for a small amount of laundry, and the small amount course keeps the number of restarts of rotation of a stopped drum larger than that in a regular course on the basis of detection of imbalanced load in drum rotation in at least final spin-drying process. Therefore, a small amount of laundry such as a piece of bath towel or bedding sheet has opportunity to spread and stick to the inner peripheral surface of the drum to balance the drum rotation load, so that rotation speed of the drum is increased and spin-drying and drainage performance is improved.
